for nine years now our board has come along with the website http://www.flyingbrick.de.
During this time a total of 5000 registrations took place and up to today the individual pages have been viewed approximately 50 million times.
During this time we have been moved by many topics, whether relief campaigns or the early death of five board members, who often were with us for many years. The board rendered assistance all over the world, provided for friendships, and even weddings were celebrated in front of everyone.
When there was an argument – preferable during bikefree winter seasons – it was often sparked by topics such as off-topic contributions or the treatment of newcomers who had difficulties to find the required information in the layout. The not really comfortable search was an additional problem. However, you can get used to nearly everything but even I had to learn over times that we encountered hurdles we couldn't overcome.
By and by we had the growing desire to create a board which meets the requirements of both groups: those, who like the “newspaper style” and who are primarily interested in news when visiting the board. And those, who require a solution to their problem – preferable with a clear bundling of the topics. Additionally we wanted more comfort, which is important when the board is visited not only for five minutes a week.
You have to know that our current board is a “rented board”. I pay a monthly fee to WebMart and in exchange I am provided with a pre-configured board on the WebMart server. Some functions can be changed, some don't.
Therefore, I was very glad to have found Peter_aus_KR who was enthusiastic about the idea to start all over again. For some time now Flyingbrick runs on a virtual server which has enough space for an own board. Peter together with Michael “six1” established a php-based board which was intensively tested and enhanced by some members during the last few weeks.
Now we – Peter, Michael and myself – would like to introduce this board to you.
Our new board is based on phpBB3, an open source software. Therefore, besides for the required sever space, no additional costs incur. At the same time it is completely configurable and we can enter enhancements ourselves.
As it is a totally new software a new registration is required – of course with the previous user name if you wish so. In contrast to our last board the user name can be changed later on at any time. There is also the new function to upload pictures into the board. Therefore, you can upload avatar pictures but also an entire photo album which can be created by each member and which will replace the former gallery. External digital picture services are therefore not longer required.
In order to meet the requirement for sorting we introduced some categories. Don't be afraid, the default view of the forum will still be sorted chronological by the newest contribution. However, when browsing down the view will be sorted according to categories. We hope to meet the requirements of both groups. We also have the opportunity to determine the durability of the contributions for each category. For instance, contributions concerning technology unlimited, OT or chat contributions only for 180 days.
The German and English part of the board will be integrated on the same board page.
The event calendar will also be integrated into the board and now we can find birthdays and events together in the board.
These are just a few enhancements but after a short period of adjustment you will realize that you will find a very comfortable board waiting for you. Dirk_EN (up to now “Moppel”) prepared an introduction video to the new board which helps you to get acquainted with it.
I am very thankful for the extensive help provided by Peter and Michael, who configured the board nearly all by themselves and I am very interested in your opinion. Many thanks to our “beta testers” who provided structural assistance with the new board during the last few weeks and who helped with the detection of multitude problems and with the incorporation of enhancements. Over the year the website will be “remoulded” as well.
Here are the planed activities for the following weeks:
Phase 1: NOW “Official” opening of the php-board. At this time no new registration with WebMart will be possible.
Phase 2: Parallel operation of both boards, e.g. if somebody cannot find the board, isn't able to register etc. up to 15.2.2010.
Phase 3: Write permission in the WebMart forum will be cancelled, read-only permission. Sticky contribution with the note that the old board will only be opened as archive until 30.7.2010 (until that time the fee to WebMart is paid).
Phase 4: Closure of the WebMart board on 1.8.2010.
For questions concerning the new board please ask:
Peter KR, six1, webmaster, administrators (technology of the board, error messages, suggestions)
dorthe, Dutch, moderators (questions concerning contributions, users)
der_kasper, eXBR, Nobbi_BM, board scouts (questions concerning handling, assistance with the functions).
As we know that the beginning of the new board will arise a lot of questions we divided the work between more people and therefore hope to be able to provide better help. All who agreed to provide that help I would like to say thank you at this point!
However, our new board is just the beginning. The information which could be found in different locations during the last years (website flyingbrick, technical information on Peter's website, Wiki) will now be joined together on one website. With that the extensive knowledge can be accessed in bundles. For the tenth anniversary of Flyingbrick we will put on new clothes – but don't be afraid: we will still be the same! However, we will have to perform the changeover of our board.

| Text: | Picked up my brick (K75C 1986) 2 years ago. Has 87k on the clock, purrs like a new Japanese bike. Comfortable cruiser, great for a Sunday ride. Speedo seems to be the big flaw with this model, apart from that it fits the bill nicely.

Ich bin "wieder Anfänger" nach 10 Jahren Abstinenz. Vorher div. GL 500/650. Europareisender SP/P/GR/I/F/CH/OE/DK/NL.

I bought my K75S 1996 about 3 years ago.
I had never seen one before but it looked nice and was not Japanese.
I have done more than 40 000km with no problems. Exept speedo of course.
It is a fantastic bike and perfect for the long open roads in South Africa.
Thank you for the fantastic website and all the information.
Maybe someday you can travel here and we will go on a long ride!!

Ich selbst besitze eine K 100 RS Bj 85, 160000 km auf der Uhr und vielen Umbauten und Eintragungen z.B. war lange Zeit die einzige K mit Michelin Hi-Sport Reifen.

Ich lese dieses tolle Forum sch einige Zeit und jetzt habe ich mich registriert. Ich bin ein Jahrgang 1945 und fahre seit meinem elften Lebensjahr motorisierte Zweiräder. 1. HMW-Moped, 2. Puch 125, 3. Puch MS 50 legal mit 16 Jahren, 4. NSU Konsul, 4. Honda CX 500 und ab 1995 also im fortgeschrittenem Alter eine K 100 RT Behördenausführung, ersteigert von unserem Innenministerium. Mittlerweile sind 160 500 km am Tacho und das Krad läuft und läuft und läuft. In den Süden bis nach Amalfi und Neapel und nach Norden bis nach Kristiansund.Neben Der RT habe ich noch eine RS 100 BJ 85 die ich mit Wechselkennzeichen fahre. |

mit steib TR500.4x die 2000 durch deutschland.ge-
spann fahren fällt altersbingt allmählich schwer.also muß ein solo herbei.habe seit mai eine
K75 RT (polizei)bin eifriger leser in dem forum,
aber zu doof mich anzumelden (auch altersbedingt)
keine PC kenntnisse.werde euch in olpe ,da ich olper bin,besuchen.wenn probleme,habe auch dose
mit anhänger.

ich fahre eine K100RS Bj. 1989. Leider ist das Federbein hinten undicht. Bei BMW angefragt, hat man mir ein neues für 358Euro plus ca. 100Euro Einbaukosten angeboten.
Gibt es sowas auch günstiger? Kann man die Dichtung reparieren?
Bin für jeden Tip dankbar.

herzlichen Dank für Euren tollen Technikbereich. Hatte im Fehlerspeicher meiner K1100RS einen ABS-Fehler, für dessen Reparatur der freundlichen BMW-Händler einen neuen Druckmodulator für ca. € 1.500 zzgl, Einbau anbot.
Mit Eurer guten Beschreibung konnte ich den Fehlerspeicher löschen und fahre seit dem wieder mit funktionierendem ABS.
Weiter so und liebe Grüße aus der Westpfalz

Bin gluecklicher Besitzer eines K 75 S Modell-91 mit ABS. Heute gerade 50 tkm drauf. Aus Deutschland 2002 importiert mit damals schon 45 tkm. Drei Vorbesitzer in Deutschland.Nach dem nur 3500 km von 2002-2009. Bin in 3 Wochen ca. 1000 km gefahren und muss gestehen : "nie frueher ein so gutes Moto erlebt !" Bin mit allerlei Zweiräder herumgefahren, auch ganz moderne. Trotz dem ist mein K 75 S immernoch ueberlegen, in jeder Hinsicht. Und dazu schön wie was!
Habe die flyingbrick.de jetzt gespeichert und werde fleissig die Seite besuchen.

| Text: | Gute Seite! Fahre eine K 75 C 1985. Sachstelegabel funktioniert tadellos,seit ich ATFöl eingfüllt habe.Das gute Stück hat jetzt mal gerade 85600 km auf dem Tacho. Die K stand am Anfang eigentlich nicht zur Debatte,wollte mir ein anderes Fabrikat zulegen. Ein Kollege brachte die 75er ins Spiel.Habe Sie mit Brigdestone BT45V bereift,was ein Quantensprung gegenüber den Metzlergummis bedeutet.Gruss |

| Text: | Gerade erst diese site gefunden, eine Fundgrube, Spitzenleistung !! Meine '85 RS habe ich im Nov. '84 in Southampton, Long Island erst-zugelassen -- lt. Joel Sacher, damals groesster Haendler in USA, die, oder eine der ersten. Hatte im Sommer eine in Rom gesehen, etwa so vom Donner geruehrt wie beim Anblick des ersten Jaguar E-type, revolutionaer ! Immer noch fabelhaft. Nie da Beduernis verspuert, fremdzugehen. |
